This home during construction

We’re quite pleased with the dramatic results achieved by the extensive use of red cedar logs combined with large old growth fir timbers on the exterior structure of this Craftsman Style Timber Frame summer home overlooking Open Bay on Quadra Island.

A local artist provided several totem poles, which adorn the surrounding property as well as the carving on the main support post. This adds dramatic effect to the front entrance.

This home has a very masculine appeal, from the traditional native longhouse style with wide cedar plank feature walls, to the large stone fireplace, custom wood and wrought iron handrails, large fir timbers and edge grain fir doors and moldings.

The combinations of hot water radiant in-floor heat and S.I.P.’s (Structural Insulated Panels) under the concrete tile roof creates a warm cozy environment in the wide-open spaces afforded by a home of this magnitude.

The large vinyl windows from Eurolne Windows of Vancouver are steel reinforced to withstand the direct force of the powerful South East storms that will lash at this timber frame home during the winter months.

The large overhangs and red cedar shingle walls will not only give lasting beauty but also provide protection from the summer sun and torrential rains for which this area is famous. Extensive use of copper for flashings and gutters will stave off the effects of corrosion caused by the salt air.

The owner built this stunning timber frame home as a family heirloom with his legacy in mind, and it will no doubt be passed down from generation to generation as it was built, as any heirloom would be, to withstand the test of time.
